Im Rahmen einer Exkursion reiste das Forschungsteam im April nach Durban und besuchte dort in Phoenix den ersten von Mahatma Gandhi gegr\u00fcndeten Ashram.<!--more--><br \/>\nW\u00e4hrend des Besuches in Phoenix kam es auch zu einem kurzen Treffen mit der 80-j\u00e4hrigen Enkelin Gandhis, Ela Gandhi, eine bekannte s\u00fcdafrikanische Friedensaktivistin, die von 1994 bis 2004 unter anderem auch f\u00fcr den ANC, der Partei von Nelson Mandela, Abgeordnete in der s\u00fcdafrikanischen Nationalversammlung war. Anl\u00e4sslich des 150. Geburtstags von Kasturba und Mohandas K. Gandhi organisierte sie 2019 mit KollegInnen eine internationale Tagung zur aktuellen Bedeutung Gandhis, die jetzt in einem neuen Buch dokumentiert ist: Alain Tschudin\/Susan Russell (Hg.): Gandhi Now: Blessed Are the Peacemakers and Sustainers of Life. Johannesburg, SA 2020. In diesem Buch finden sich auch zwei Beitr\u00e4ge von Ela Gandhi, die ihre engen Kontakte zur katholischen Kirche aufzeigen. So weist sie einem Beitrag (\u201eSynergies Between Gandhian Swadeshi and Pope Francis&#8217;s Economy of Solidarity\u201c) auf die N\u00e4he von Gandhis Wirtschaftskonzeption zur solidarischen Wirtschaft von Papst Franziskus hin. Ein weiterer Beitrag (\u201eWomen as Leaders in Promoting Integral Humanism\u201c) widmet sich dem Einsatz von Frauen f\u00fcr eine humanere Welt. Neben Gandhis Frau Kasturba nennt sie dabei auch mehrmals Chiara Lubich, die Gr\u00fcnderin der internationalen Fokolar-Bewegung. Ela Gandhis enge Kontakte mit der katholischen Kirche erkl\u00e4ren auch, warum sie im Februar 2020 pers\u00f6nlich von Papst Franziskus in Rom empfangen wurde.
